Sort Out Your Money Before The Festive Season Arrives

christmas gifts

It might seem as though the festive season is already here. Particularly when you look in the superstores and discover that the Halloweens goods have, almost instantly, been replaced by festive wonders. But, no matter what your TV might say, no matter how many shops might be playing the music, it’s not here yet. There is still around five weeks until Christmas, and that’s more than enough time to get things sorted. Let’s face it, Christmas, for all the good it may bring, is just one massive expense. You know it, I know it, even your kids know it. But what if you’re not ready to spend all that money. What if your finances aren’t in a healthy situation right now? I have some ideas that should help you sort out finances before the festive season is truly upon us.

Check Your Energy Account

It may sound silly, but you’ll thank me if you do this. Basically, through the summer months, unless you ask them to, your energy supplier won’t take down your month payments. Since we hardly ever use the heating through the summer months, this can lead to a nice amount of money being left on your energy account, in credit. That’s right, you could have money that you don’t even know about sitting there. It’s actually intended to cover the costs over winter, but they won’t charge you for this until months after the Christmas season. That’s more than enough time to plump up the account once more. As such, you can withdraw that money and then use it on Christmas gifts and other expenses that you might have. We’re sure you could do with some extra cash to buy that tree that you have been eyeing up for the front room. Of course, this isn’t the first place where you might find that you have extra money.

Earn A Little Weekend Work

We don’t necessarily just mean weekend work but rather work that you can complete in your spare time outside of your typical job. There are lots of possibilities like this, particularly online. You might find, for instance, that you can work as a guest writer for bloggers. Bloggers are always eager to get some guest writing on their blogs because it’s fresh content. This helps boost their search ranking, and that means they are willing to pay top dollar for a service like this. In fact, you might be surprised by just how much you can get for even a little work.

All you need to do is look for websites that have ‘work with me’ or ‘guest post’ pages. This is a direct advertisement to people like you, fellow bloggers and of course advertisers. If this the only way you can make money online? Actually, there are plenty of other possibilities such as working for a website that allows you to create a whole range of different freelance work and get paid by individual clients. It’s certainly worth considering an option like this particularly if you want to make a little extra money to add to your income. That will help you pool together enough cash to deal with the pressure of the festive season.

Get Rid Of Your Debt

Next, let’s think about debt. Shockingly, most of us have at least a little debt. It’s hard to avoid completely because a lot of purchases are in life are so large that they actually cause it, and that’s certainly an issue. Particularly, if you were hoping to borrow extra cash through the Christmas period. After all, let’s be honest, Christmas is a lot easier with a little loan to help Santa buy those presents. The problem is that if your debt levels are too high, you’re not going to be able to borrow the money you need to get that loan at all. So, how do you solve a problem like debt?

Well, you could think about taking out a debt consolidation loan. This is going to pool all the money you owe into one completely easy to pay sum. Debt consolidation works by essentially lending you money. That’s right, it’s a loan but a great one because you can use the loan to pay off all your debt from various sources. Credit card bills, home bills and much more can be consolidated into one easy to pay back sum. It can even be cheaper than what you originally owed with lower levels of interest, and you can read more about it here. You’ll discover that this could be one of the answers to many of your issues.

Are there any other possibilities for dealing with debt? Well, you can think about using your assets to pay it off. Before Christmas is a great time to sift through the clutter in your home and see if there is anything that you can sell. We’re not talking about giving away your prized possessions here but rather, if you have kids, the toys that they no longer play with and wouldn’t notice if they were gone. Or, the items in your attic that haven’t been brought out in decades. Once you start digging, you might be surprised by how many objects of value you have lying around.

Earn That Little Bit Extra

Finally, you might also want to turn your attention towards your main career, rather, as people often suggest, towards a potential side hustle. If you want to make more money, the best way might be to give your boss reasons to give you that big Christmas bonus. Or, perhaps encourage them to consider you for that promotion. This is ultimately the best way to get more money in your hand and make Christmas just that little bit easier to handle this year.

Goodluck with your festive season this year. I hope it’s fantastic and I hope this helps, at least financially, you to take the pressure off. We all know that this time of year can be stressful, but that doesn’t mean it has to be a huge blow to your bank balance if you can get things fixed right now.
